Nothing says more about your physical fitness and spiritual endurance than hoverboarding while slowing roasting your own avatar on a bon fire.  Yes, the fire is semi-transparent.  While your forward view is partially covered by the fire, the fierce and intimidating presence of burning fire more than offsets this little inconvenience during a race.
